Dealing with Wildfires and Weather Crises

Wildfires and Weather emergencies continue to be in the news. These resources will help people with disabilities prepare for and deal with crises related to weather, fire and earthquakes.

California Wildfires and People with Disabilities

Ability Tools is a program of the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers, providing medical equipment, daily living aids, and technology to people in shelters who need them.

Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program from the California Fire Foundation, which gives $100 gift cards to people impacted by wildfires including firefighters and civilians.

Transportation issues in response to evacuations

After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, members of AHEAD, with help from Jane Jarrow of DAIS put together information for students and Disability Resource Centers who may have lost important documentations and records due to weather crises. Many of the concepts are informative and used by DRCs today on a regular basis. Available in Word and PDF.
